Increasing Science Capital – Diwali 24th October 2022

Helping children to link everyday experiences with the science you teach in the classroom is important to help them understand the world they live in and make connections. Diwali falls on October 24th in 2022 and it is the celebration of the Festival of Lights. Get creative to make the cross curricular links between your RE lessons and science. Look at how candles melt – what type of changes occur? Make shadow puppets to tell the story of Diwali – can the children make their shadows larger and smaller just by moving them towards and away from the light source? Look at the traditional foods that are cooked as part of the celebrations – what changes are occurring? Could they classify the creatures from the story of Rama and Sita?
