World Animal Day - 4th October

World Animal Day is an international day day of action celebrated every year on October 4th to raise awareness of animal welfare and rights. It's a day to celebrate animals and educate people about the importance of treating them with kindness and respect and October 4th is chosen because is the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Why not get your class involved in one of the following ways and use World Animal Day as a starting point for events throughout the year - as animal kindness should be every day!

  • Fundraising events: Schools can raise money for an animal charity and learn about the issues the charity faces.

  • Animal-related competitions: Schools can hold competitions related to animals.

  • Art projects: Create an animal camouflage display using collage or mosaic.

  • Workshops and visits: Schools can host workshops with owners of working animals.
